As India commemorated its 68th Republic Day on 26 January 2017, celebrations were also held at the Indian Embassy at 2 Chome-2-11 Kudanminami, Tokyo. The celebrations started at 8:45 am and like every other year, Global Indian International School (GIIS) Tokyo students were invited to take part in the event. The flag-hoisting ceremony and the event were chaired by the Honourable Ambassador of India to Japan, Mr. Sujan R. Chinoy.

The students of GIIS Tokyo Campus performed brilliantly and were greeted and applauded by the H.E. Mr. Sujan R. Chinoy, himself. Students performed the song titled ‘Le chale hum Rashtra Nauka ko bhavar se par kar’. A Grade 10 student, Erisa Kawabata, played the violin for the song.  The song and the students’ patriotic fervor were well received by the audience and the Ambassador commended all the students for a great show.

After the flag hoisting ceremony, the Ambassador read the honorable President's message to the nation.

Students sang patriotic songs and delivered speeches about various prominent figures of India’s freedom struggle. Following this event, a special assembly was also held to mark this significant  occasion.
