Students of GIIS Tokyo Campus from Class 5 and above, along with teachers and parents celebrated the International Yoga Day on 21 June 2016. The event was organised to educate the students about yoga and its numerous benefits for their health and life. Eminent yoga practitioner, Master Sudhakar, conducted the Yoga session at the school.

The event started with a brief introduction to students about International Yoga Day celebration. Information about importance of Yoga was shared with the students by showing two short videos about the same. The school Principal addressed the students and teachers and conveyed the significance of yoga in the daily lives.

The students from classes 5-12 were taken to the Ichinoe Community Kaikan in Tokyo for an hour-long yoga session with Master Sudhakar.

Master Sudhakar started practicing yoga at the young age of 11. He quickly embraced wise teachings and spiritual education from his first guru Swami Chandrananda. He established a foundation in the yamas and niyamas (social and self-disciplines) along with regular asana practice under his guru. Under the advice of Swami Chidroopananda, who recognised Master Sudhakar’s talents and passion to share his master’s teachings, Master Sudhakar completed his teacher training at the International Sivananda Yoga Centre at the age of 15. As the youngest graduate, he was notably awarded ‘Yoga Sharomani’, or ‘Best Teacher’ award.

Master Sudhakar has founded the Sree Narayana Guru Yoga Institute in India, offering yoga classes for teenagers and adults and has trained thousands of yoga students, many of whom have become yoga champions, both nationally and internationally.
