GIIS Surat Campus wins Young Intach Heritage Award 2012

Young Intach Heritage Award 2012
The Heritage Club of GIIS Surat conducted activities ranging from historical sight visits, heritage walks, awareness programmes, eco-friendly works and art workshops through out the year. Each student was given a passport by Intach to maintain his or her contribution towards understanding, studying and preserving out heritage. The students were judged on various parameters for their efforts and participation in the drive towards preserving heritage. It is a matter of pride that GIIS Surat Campus emerged as winners of the Young Intach Heritage Award 2012.

Mask Making
Promoting the cultural heritage and the folk art of Gujarat, students of heritage club created beautiful masks of a Gujarati couple.

Manuscript
Before the invention of woodblock printing in China or by moveable type in a printing press in Europe, all written documents had to be both produced and reproduced by hand. Manuscripts were produced on vellum and other parchment, on papyrus, and on palm leaf. As a part of Intach activity students wrote down and prepared manuscripts.

Warli painting
Students created one of the simplest yet most symbolic forms of tribal painting; Warli traces its roots to a tiny tribe in Maharashtra called the Warli Tribe.

Natural Pesticides
Students learnt to make pesticides that protect plants from harmful insects without harming the soil using natural resources like tomato leaves, marigold leaves, neem leaves, onions and wood Ash. This is a fertilizer rich in potash and a powerful pesticide when mixed in with the soil at the time the seeds are sown.

Visit to Sardar Patel National Museum Bardoli
GIIS Surat salutes the Great SardarVallabhbhai Patel. To celebrate his birthday GIIS students visited the museum and learn about SardarVallabhbhai Patels life & his valuable contribution to the spirit of India. To immortalise memories of Bardoli Farmers Movement Gujarat government opened the museum for general public.
