The 1945 atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were a tragedy of the greatest magnitude. To this day, thousands of victims suffer from the pervasive effects of the nuclear bombings.

Hiroshima Day is now a focus for anti-war and anti-nuclear discussions and demonstrations. Students of the Global Indian International School, Surat led a Peace March through the city of Surat in an effort to sensitise the public towards the evils that disrupt peace in society.

The theme for the Peace March was based on end of war, dismantling of nuclear weapons and end of all forms of physical, economic, racial, religious, cultural, sexual and psychological violence.

School buses decorated on the theme of peace, picked up students from each bus route. Each bus displayed a special theme based on social evils prevalent in our society;

  1. Say NO to child labour
  2. Save the Girl Child
  3. Say NO to Violence against Women
  4. Say NO to Terrorism
  5. Say NO to War
  6. Say NO to Addiction

The messages were communicated through banners and placards carried by the students as the buses moved around collecting the students from various stops. The fleet of buses finally stopped at the neighbouring area of Parvat Patia. The students were a vibrant bunch as they marched through the routes of Parvat Patia, Puna Khumbharia, Kadodara and Chlathan.

Organ Donation Awareness & Pledge Camp at School

An Organ Donation Awareness & Pledge Camp was organised to further the sentiment of Peace. The school addressed both students and teachers alike, on the need for organ donation and the noble gift of life to the less fortunate. Pledge forms were distributed to sanction donation of their organs to the needy. A presentation was made to create awareness on various body-parts that can be donated while the person is alive and also the organs which can be donated after death.

The little ones were not left behind. Pre-primary children made peace birds with their teachers and hung them on a peace string.
