“My religion is based on truth and non-violence. Truth is my God. Non-violence is the means of realizing Him” - Mahatma Gandhi
A special assembly was held at GIIS Surat to celebrate ‘Gandhi Jayanti’. It began with a rendition of Bapu’s favourite devotional song, “Raghupati Raghav” sung by the students to pay homage to the great leader and the ‘Father of the Nation’, Mahatma Gandhi. Ms. Laxita Jhawar, Student of class IX delivered a thought provoking speech on Gandhi, sharing how he led the nation in the fight for freedom as well as his fight for social equality. It was followed by an inspirational speech in Hindi by Ms. Rinku Kakadiya, teacher of GIIS Surat, highlighting the values and ethics that Gandhi strived to inculcate in the society. Children made beautiful posters of Mahatma Gandhi. Principal, GIIS Surat garlanded the bust of Mahatma Gandhi installed at the Mahatma Gandhi Centre for Universal Values (MGCUV). GIIS Surat strives hard to inculcate the values for which Mahatma Gandhiji stood for and lived as an example to the entire world.
Gandhi Jayanti was made memorable for everyone by adopting the mission of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’; cleanliness drive. On this occasion, the dream of the Prime Minster Shri Narendra Modi to make our country a clean and strong India, turned into a reality when the students took an initiative not only through mere words, but also by practically cleaning the school ground, corridors, school garden and classrooms. The students and staff of GIIS Surat participated in keeping the surroundings clean and hygienic. The job and the zeal of the students were beyond words. They took an oath to keep their environment clean and safe for all. Through various initiatives of environment consciousness and community services, the students are sensitized to become responsible citizens who will make a difference to their surroundings throughout their lives and set examples for others.
