Knowledge-sharing on harvest festivals conducted by GIIS India campuses

On the occasion of harvest season, an informative video conference between students of GIIS Surat Campus and GIIS Indore Campus was conducted. Students of GIIS Noida Campus were also present to witness the same.

Harvest Festivals of IndiaStudents of GIIS Surat Campus presented information and traditions related to festivals of Onam and Baisakhi. Late-August or early-September marks high-spirited celebrations in south India with the festival of Onam, which includes ten days of feasting, boat races, song, dance and merriment. People of north India, particularly Punjab pray for good harvest. Visit to Gurudwaras, Vaisakhi processions and traditional performances are the highlights of the day. Baisakhi has special significance for Sikhs as on this day in 1699, their tenth Guru Gobind Singh Ji organised the order of the Khalsa. Students shared details of these festivals, which was followed by traditional dances, where the children presented in gorgeous costumes to create the ambience of celebration.

Students of GIIS Indore Campus presented information on festivals of Gudhi Padwa and Pongal. They explained the importance of these festivals. Gudhi Padwa is the Marathi name for Chaitra Shukla Pratipada and it is celebrated as new year day in western Indian state of Maharashtra. Astronomical, chronological and religious importance of the festival were also discussed along with its significance. Pongal is a harvest festival celebrated in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu at the end of the harvest season, and marks the beginning of the northward journey of the Sun. Meaning, traditions and significance of the festival was shared in detail .

The video-conference was an informative and interesting session for both, students and teachers which concluded with a quiz round that was organised by students of GIIS Surat Campus. Students of GIIS Surat, GIIS Indore and GIIS Noida Campuses participated in the quiz.

The students learnt about the important Harvest festivals of India through an interactive platform.
