They came, they presented, they won! Like winning to them was easier than rolling off a log. Their confidence, knack for IT, and presentation skills, romped them to victory just deftly.

Four students of Global Indian International School (GIIS) Surat, probably, didn’t know they would bring the school its first-ever award for an information technology related competition. Aayush Vaghani, Jitendra D Choudhary, Jitendra P Choudhary, and Yash Suthar, all students of class 10, bagged the first place at the Inter-School APPSCON competition wherein the participants had to create an android mobile application and present it through a PPT. There were nine teams from nine schools participating in the competition wherein the team members had to make a 10-minute presentation on their mobile apps.

GIIS Surat IT teacher, Asfak Shek, guided the four IT wizards and help them prepare with their mobile application. The competition provided various topics like business, communication, diet, etc., but our students zeroed in on the topic ‘Self Defence’ (SOS + Self-defence trainer). Why? Because, they wanted to build a mobile application which will contribute towards the safety of those in need. “We didn’t just want to win the competition but we also wanted to build an android mobile app which could easily come to the rescue of people in need. Also, we chose this topic because it reflected few of our school’s 9 Gems educational practices of Visual & Digital Arts, Ethics & Discipline, Personality Development, and Community Connection.”

The students were preparing for over two weeks for the competition and were quite confident of their victory! The competition and help from their teacher has made them aware of their own talent and are now more inclined to take up IT as a prospective career. Can we say, we have IT prodigies in the making!
