Through the looking glass – seek the hero within

testnoida230622

The 15th annual day event of Global Indian International School, Queenstown campus – ‘Through The Looking Glass’ was a huge success. It was a celebration of the human thirst for the unimaginable, the extraordinary, the fantastic. Dr Prahlad Vaddekepat, Associate Professor at National University of Singapore and a ‘wizard’ in Robotic Science, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The beauty and splendour of the Indian classical dances of Bharatnatyam and Kathak coupled with the scintillating radiance of Rajasthani Matka dance set the mood for the day. The melodious strains of the school orchestra spread an ebullient warmth in the auditorium with the soulful rendition of Damodarashtakam, followed by a fusion of Indian classical music.

The three hour entertainment bonanza also took the audience on a flight of fantasy to the lush valleys of Manipur in the enchanting and inspiring dance drama that narrated the tale of Chitrangada, the warrior princess immortalised in Tagore’s timeless saga of love and duty, sacrifice and self-discovery. Those with a penchant for magic and mystery were entertained by a novel adventure of Harry Potter’s night at the museum, wherein the robust and colourful Tribal beats and the exotic haunting beauty of the Egyptian dance in Cleopatra’s court swept the audience off its feet.

There was no slack on the moral front as the Hindi play ‘Ek Kalpana’ brought to life the waxen figures of celebrities to tickle the funny bone, while the English drama ‘The Hero Within’ made a connection across time and space, from the powerful poetry of the Bohemian Rhapsody to Akbar’s court and thereafter, a peek into a Japanese Empress and her forte. The message was clear- there lies a hero within all of us waiting to be revealed. The event ended with an exuberant ‘Carnival of Joy’ with spirits soaring high.

There were many firsts for the event. The making of the event had been captured by students in a lively 3 minute video. The scripts largely written by students are a testimony to the endless creativity of young GIISIANS. Moreover, an all student reporting group – ‘The Press Corps of GIIS’ captured in print all the action behind the scene , the sweat, the blood, the tears on a special school blog dedicated to the Annual Day. The school Head Boys and Head Girls shared the stage with the Principal to bring the highlights of the year to the audience. All in all, the annual day event was a tribute to the unrelenting team spirit and the thirst for excellence that has come to characterise all effort at GIIS schools.
