In June 2017, GIIS students and staff visited Sengkang fire station, to show appreciation and gratitude to the Home Team, Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) for its fire-fighting and rescue services at GIIS Punggol site. The visit was led by Mr Kaustubh Bodhankar, Deputy CEO, Global Schools Foundation. 

Global Indian International School would also like to take this opportunity to thank the team for showing students around the fire station.

The day started with SCDF team welcoming students and staff, guiding them about the crucial details, such as mission of SCDF, roles and functions of the Sengkang fire station, and skills of the firefighters as well.

Students learnt and appreciated the critical mission the fire fighters are subject to fire incidence including a case of an emergency. Around 15 students got the opportunity to experience this in a one hour programme at the fire station. This included:

• Demonstration on tools used by firefighters
• Better understanding on roles, functions, routine of the whole process
• Insight into operation capabilities of the appliances used

Students also learnt about the fire protection system and safety measures. It was also illustrated that how a Professional Engineer should maintain a safe environment, so that there is no sign of fire hazards in the building or work place.

SCDF is known for conducting wide range of community-based and public educational activities to improve the emergency preparation and resilience of the civilian population. GIIS is grateful to SCDF for its immediate response and rescue service it offered to GIIS Punggol site.

It was truly a learning opportunity for students and staff alike that how an operationally-ready SCDF along with its professional body of specialists and well-trained officers is capable of handling any untoward eventualities.
