Pandit Birju Maharaj along with his senior discipline, Ms Saswati Sen along with his musicians visited GIIS Queenstown and conducted a 3-hour Kathak workshop. The students who attended are a part of GICC and other Kathak schools in Singapore. At least 240 students participated in the beginners and advanced sessions on Sunday, 24th September 2017 from 11.30am to 3pm. Students found the session informative, as they were taught techniques in Kathak choreography with special attention on eye and hand movements and the philosophy of story telling approaches in Kathak.
The students who participated remarked that this is the first large scale workshop they had attended with such a legendary dancer in Singapore and many asked for more of such events to be created for the fast growing Kathak dance community. Many remarked that this event was a landmark activity in the cultural calendar of Singapore and was well organised by GICC.
GIIS Queenstown is very honoured to offer the venue for such an esteemed workshop conducted by none other than the living legend in the world of Kathak Dance, Pandit Birju Maharaj.
