GIIS students secure ‘Top in the World’ awards for Hindi in Cambridge IGCSE Examination 2015

Three students from IGCSE Class 10 (Batch 2015-16) of Global Indian International School (GIIS), Queenstown Campus achieved ‘Top in the World’ awards for Hindi in Cambridge International Examinations held in November 2015. Results for Hindi language examinations were announced on 17 April 2016. Mr GSS Rao, Director - Operations (Singapore), GIIS said, “These learners who have achieved the highest standard mark in the world for a single subject, have made the school proud. The awards recognise the talent, dedication and commitment of both the students and the teachers in our schools. On behalf of GIIS family, we congratulate each student.” These students will receive the Cambridge Top in the World award and certificate from the IGCSE Cambridge board.

Ms Madhu Khanna, Principal at GIIS Queenstown Campus was elated with students’ achievements and said, “We congratulate the students on their outstanding results in the Cambridge examinations. It is commendable they have emerged World Toppers. For the first time, the IGCSE Cambridge examination Board had preponed the Hindi subject exam and was held in November 2015. Despite of limited time to prepare, students gave an excellent performance in the exam.”

Speaking on success of these students, Ms Anju Sharma, Head of Department (HOD) for Hindi said, “Practice makes them perfect. We were confident that our students are going to do well in these exams. Having to achieve World Toppers in Hindi demonstrates their dedication and commitment for the subject.”

Support provided by teachers and family members have helped these learners’ excel in the examination. According to Mr Sujeet Kumar Srivastava, teacher for Hindi subject, “Hindi is an application-based subject in IGCSE. With strong command over their vocabulary and writing skills, we knew they will succeed in the subject.”

Topper’s speak

Durga Rukmini Manaswini Talagadadivi: “Teachers gave us practise and guidance to excel in the language. It is their effort, which has reflected on my result. Hindi is one of my favourite subjects, but I never knew I was so good at it,” gushed on learning about the results.

“For the exam, all I did was religiously practise Hindi by speaking and watching few serials every day. In my family we use to take efforts to ensure all my siblings talk in Hindi to improve grasp over the language," said an overwhelmed Asmita Raja.

Elated Anushka Avinash Kulkarni shares: “I paid the same attention to all subjects. I didn@aps@t expect to be a World Topper though. It is all surreal. I would like to thank my teachers and parents for giving me support.”
