One way in which GIIS grooms the students for their future roles as leaders is through Student Council. Students recently participated in an investiture ceremony to support and encourage the 93 Student Council members at Queenstown campus. The videos below highlight this inspiring event.
"Investiture Ceremony is held to recognise the newly elected members of Student Council for session 2017/2018." Says Ms Madhu Khanna, principal of the GIIS Queenstown Campus. "The Student Council this year comes with great experience, with students who already have leadership positions earlier, and are much more enthusiastic about bringing to the school innovation and creativity."
At the ceremony, the 93 student council members received their badges that indicated their positions for the coming school year. The Head Girl and Head Boy were also given the opportunity to inspire the student body with an emotive speech, talking about their goals for GIIS throughout the year. The student body and the parents of the Student Council members were in attendance, helping show their support for their fellow students and school leadership. The Student Council members were elected based on votes from both the student body and the faculty.
As members of the Student Council, these students will have the opportunity to provide mentorship and direction to their peers. They will also be able to lead innovations in the school, bringing ideas for activities and events to help make the school year more successful for the rest. GIIS believes that having student leaders at school is critical to creating a legacy that is grounded in leadership. This is one of the many ways in which we take the traditional education model and transform it into a holistic approach that helps shape future global citizens.
At the heart of everything we do at GIIS is 9 GEMSTM model, of which one key gem focuses on developing Entrepreneurship and Leadership skills across student body. Pupils are taught vital decision making and critical thinking skills that help them get ready for challenging and critical roles in the future. Those who demonstrate exceptional potential are often chosen for the Student Council.
Besides this, the GIIS Entrepreneurship Programme and the GIIS Leadership Lecture Series are additional opportunities for up-and-coming leaders. Throughout the year, students have opportunities to display their unique abilities and ideas in various programmes designed to inspire them to become more effective decision makers about their own future.
