GIIS Queenstown primary campus celebrates fun-filled annual day

Peace Day_GIIS Ahmedabad

Annual Days are always a festive occasion for students teachers and parents. They work together to come up with the best cultural show. Our 9 GEMS™ educational framework is based on one foundational concept: the importance of providing a rounded education to students. This dynamic, holistic approach is interwoven throughout everything we do at GIIS. This annual day performance was also a testimony of this.

Each year our annual day presentations have been centered on a specific theme. This year our students presented well known stories that could impart an important value which is embedded in it.

The Guest of Honour for this show was The High Commissioner of India to the Republic of Singapore, Mr. Jawed Ashraf. He was given a warm welcome to the rhythm of drum beats. In his speech he applauded the efforts taken by GIIS in ensuring that students receive a holistic education.

Show1 - Aladdin and his Genie

The context used for show 1 was the story of Aladdin and his Genie. This story was adapted to bring stories from around the world which also incorporated a variety of cultures and ideas. Aladdin had to answer 3 questions that was posed by the genie. The correct answers would help him attain freedom from the cave in which he was trapped.

The presentations included a short skit by Kindergarten students and it was called “The Rainbow Bird”. This is a “cautionary tale about selfishness and vanity" and a reminder that "sharing brings happiness and acceptance.

This was followed by a musical presentation by class 1. They presented the Chinese Tale, A Magic Paintbrush” in which Ma Liang, a Chinese painter used his brush for good deeds even though he was threatened by the evil king.

Class 3 presented the story of Alibaba and the 40 thieves and through this story conveyed the message that greediness can get you in trouble. The last play was presented by Class 5. This play is a Japanese tale where a young boy gains the courage to fight the witches and thereby save the city of Kyoto.

Show2: Once Upon a Time…

Show 2 was themed, ‘Once Upon a Time…’ and the Guest of Honour for this show was Ms Shobha Tsering Bhalla, MD, India Se Media Pte Ltd . In her speech she motivated young parents to encourage children to take up tasks. She emphasized on the need for creating good human beings out of the young students that we have.

The context used for this show was the story of a few adventurous campers who encounter witches in the jungle. Various stories aimed at conveying values emerged during their interaction with the witches. The stories enacted were age old tales like Puss in Boots, ‘The Selfish Giant’, and Pandora’s Box.

Both the shows were well appreciated by the parents:

Parent of Moryan Surana (1B) and Aryan Surana (4B) said “We had the opportunity to attend both the shows (show 1 and show 2). Both the shows were Outstanding and very enjoyable. We liked the musical concept which was well integrated with the short story skits and the dance performances.”

Parent of Ancina Immanuel (1A) said “We would like to take this opportunity to express how “wowed” we are by this year’s annual day. Thank you for your dedication and hard work in making this a great show. We could see through the energy exuberated on stage that the children also enjoyed performing as much as we enjoyed watching them”

In both the shows, the fusion of dance styles and music along with skits captured the hearts of the audiences. The highlight was the assembly of all the participants along with the teachers, on the stage, for the finale.
