My experience of the IB Diploma programme as a curriculum....
The IB Diploma Programme has instilled in me values of dedication, conscientiousness, philanthropy, sincerity, and honesty. These values are core pre-requisites of several aspects of the programme such as community service, internal assessments, and external examinations. The challenges have taught me how to relate and incorporate theoretical knowledge into practical assessment work and returning something of value to the community.

Personally, the most challenging aspect was to strike a balance between maintaining academic performance and adhering to internal deadlines for assessment work. However, I overcame this challenge by following a strict timetable that allowed me to concentrate on practical and theoretical work with equal focus and sincerity.
What is different about pursuing IB at GIIS?
GIIS consists of an excellent faculty that is eager and willing to help at every stage of the process. The IB Class of 2014 is a close-knit community that comprises of hardworking individuals with an array of talents and are keen on helping classmates with their difficulties. Studying in a highly competitive environment encouraged me to maintain focus at all times in order to achieve my personal and professional goals.
About Guidance of IB teachers at GIIS
During the two years of IB, the teachers fulfilled their jobs as facilitators with utmost dedication by informing us of the criteria for assessment work, upcoming deadlines, and techniques to study for the external examinations. I truly value the assistance I received throughout the seemingly overwhelming process, as it helped me enjoy and learn throughout the programme instead of focusing solely on the outcomes.
My experience in applying for university applications....
The process seemed almost endless at first; succeeding in aptitude tests, completing supplemental essays, ensuring my academic performance was consistent and selecting universities that mostly complemented my values. This process however became enjoyable and enriching with the help and guidance of our Career Counsellor.
Regarding Plans going forward post IB graduation
After two years of IB, I will be studying medicine. I would also like to undertake clinical internships in addition to my previous attachments in order to acquire greater maturity and experience.
My advice for new IB Diploma students or those seeking to join the programme in future....
An early start is always beneficial. It is imperative to be committed from the very start of the programme in terms of keeping coursework up to date, taking effective notes in class and studying on a regular basis. It is also important to maintain a positive outlook and view the process as educating and enriching.

My favourite memories at GIIS comprise of enthusiastic and dedicated teachers, interactive classroom sessions, friends that were inspirational and balanced, and each day that taught me something new about myself. I thoroughly enjoyed my schooling years at GIIS and could not have hoped for a better experience! |
