As part of the GIIS Innovation Fest and to educate students on future sustainable developments, GIIS Queenstown, Balestier and East Coast campuses organised a GIIS learning session from 25-26 July, where the BYD e-6 electric car was brought in to showcase the functions of the car and the benefits it will provide to the environment in future.

GIIS promotes sustainable environmental solutions and encourages students to learn more about new and innovative products by providing such informative sessions across all campuses. The BYD e-6 is a pure electric car which is battery-operated and travels to a distance of 200 km when charged up to 2-4 hours each time. It can travel up to a maximum speed of 140 km/h. This invention will prevent carbon emissions as there will be zero usage of fuel which will help to curb in the increase of carbon monoxide emissions and harmful gases that currently leads to environmental issues such as air pollution and the ozone layer depletion.

The students of all the GIIS campuses were familiar beforehand about the BYD e-6 product and asked many fascinating questions about it. Representatives from Smart and BYD were impressed with the GIIS students’ knowledge of the product. The representatives were very helpful and informative and shared many insights about the product. Students were intrigued by the domestic car and had the chance to have a look and feel of the engine and the different functions of the car.

Henry He, Assistant General Manager of BYD shared that it will be launched in Singapore by the end of September 2016.
