On 8th Nov Shri Sundarlal Bahuguna & Smt Vimla Bahuguna the leaders of the CHIPKO MOVEMENT visited the school. A staunch Gandhian, Shri Bahuguna was touched to visit the Gandhi Centre. He spent over half an hour with the students. In his interaction he urged the students to change the four pillars on which the present world is based namely Satta (power) Sampatti (material wealth) Shashtra (weapons) & Shaastra (degrees & academic qualifications) He said Satta should be replaced by Seva (service) Sampatti by Sayyam (self control) Shastra by Shanti (peace) Shaastra by Sadaachar (values).He urged the students to follow three things reduce needs 2 find alternatives to resources that fulfil needs,& to live in harmony with nature. The School presented them with a shawl, which he accepted with love & affection. The children were impressed with his simplicity & humility & were inspired by his high ideals. Smt Vimla recounted their experience of the 8years long Chipko Andolan & the children were awed by the courage of the villagers. She told the children to watch a film made by BBC titled-Axing of the Himalayas.
