Keeping Pace with the World – GIIS Chinchwad Campus, Pune

In keeping ahead with the times, GIIS Chinchwad Campus, conducted different workshops and training programmes to enable constant improvement and deliver education of high standards to its pupils.

Monthly workshops for teaching staff

Training workshops are conducted for teachers to continuously upgrade their skills and understanding of pedagogical tools to make classes more interesting and interactive for students. Workshops encompassing Collaborative Learning, Circle Time, Theatre in Education and Story Telling in Class focus on changing the way teachers interact with children inside and outside the classrooms. It helps teachers to adopt new ways of learning, to ensure meaningful school experience for the children. These workshops also serve to strengthen the bond between the teacher and the class, help in building trust and enhance inter-personal relationships within the class.

Following Math Buddy in school

Math Buddy is an online portal focused on helping children understand math concepts and skills through interactive activities and the use of practical engaging lessons, supplemented by animations, making it easy for children to apply concepts effectively. In addition to activities, each topic is accompanied by easy-to-use interactive online practice worksheets which provide immediate feedback on the childs performance. There is also an assessment module for each topic containing numerous quality questions, to help assess the childs level of understanding of the concepts.

Theme-based assemblies

In order to encourage a secular ambience at school, theme-based assemblies celebrating festivals such as Christmas, Guru Nanak Jayanti and Janmashtami are conducted, which highlight the significance that festivals have in our social life. They also help to promote social harmony and integration in todays universal society by celebrating cultural diversity. It helps children celebrate cultural similarities as well as differences.

Celebrating events such as Independence Day, Republic Day, Gandhi Jayanti, Martyrs Day, Teachers Day and Childrens Day motivate students to understand the true spirit of an independent India, the power of its citizens and the secularism of its states.

Important international days, like the World Peace Day and World Environment Day celebrated in the school sensitise children towards current issues and help them recognise that we share a small planet and are responsible for our actions.

Newspaper in Education (NiE)

NiE, an initiative taken up by the school, is a programme designed to help teach children about newspapers, how they work, and how to use them. Workshops conducted in the school help the teachers to use this programme effectively. The school conducts entertaining and funfilled programmes as a part of NiE, which includes quizzes and kite-making during Sankranti – to provide a glimpse of tradition and culture, and mind ticklers which test the listening, reading and numerical skills of children.
