With a Hope of making Earth a greener Planet, GIIS Noida observes Earth Day

International Yoga Day
Earth provides enough to satisfy man’s needs, but not every man’s greed.
Mahatma Gandhi

2017 is a vital year in the history of acts laid in favour of protecting our planet. This Earth Day i.e. 22nd April, 2017 marked the first anniversary of signing of the Paris agreement, which focuses on combating climate changes and adapting to its effects all over the world. The idea behind signing this agreement was to handle and respond to the changing climatic threats posed to humanity, and strengthen the ability of countries to deal with the impact of climate change.

In order to support the biggest Environment movement of all times, Global Indian International School (GIIS) Noida celebrated the 47th Worth Earth Day in a special assembly with absolute excitement and enthusiasm. The celebrations for the day kicked off with the Morning Prayer followed by the thought of day quoting Ms. Margaret Mead’s words that emphasized on the need of change irrespective of the age of an individual.

Moving ahead, a power point presentation highlighting the growing problems of air, water, and soil pollution was presented by Grade 6 students. The whole motive behind discussing the problems was to instil a sense of responsibility among students and bring a change which motivates them to plant trees, keep their surrounds clean and perform services that are in benefit to the Mother Earth.

Inspiring the crowd, the school choir instilled a plethora of emotions with their thematic song “Every Day is Earth Day”. The lyrics of the song were something to ponder on, leaving every mind thinking and heart throbbing:

Think about the deep blue seas,
Think about the plants and trees
Think about the things you see every day
Think about the way you live
Think about the things you give
A what if every day was Earth Day?  Hey!!
Every day is Earth Day!
Wherever we roam, Our Earth is our home

Since Earth Day celebrations were in full swing, educating students about various natural disasters was a perfect topic to be taken up. Ms. Pallavi Kulshrestha – Teacher, GIIS Noida, in order to create awareness among students about Disaster Management took up a session on Disaster Management and educated students on various steps to be taken during the evacuation process in an emergency situation.

We at GIIS Noida, are dedicated to make education serve as an essential tool that not only educate children to become responsible environmentalists but climate literate citizens, but also motivates them to take corrective/preventive measures at personal levels to bring about the required change.
