Sports Day for Tiny Tots

Sports Day

11th December 2015: Sports Day was a fun filled celebration for all Pre- primary students as they participated in innovative sports that enhance the physical development and mental agility of children. In the early years all sporting activities are focused towards development of the gross motor skills of children. Well-coordinated races help the children to sharpen their reasoning and problem solving skills and most importantly, children simply love games and sports. Sports Day was planned with a lot of care and each race had a theme.

Pre-Nursey:
‘Being Human’ being the core theme, the race was an activity on ‘Feed the Animals’. - cut-outs of herbivorous animals were put up on posts and, on the command, the children had to run and pick up grass from the flat ring and run towards the farm animal and feed them and cross the finishing line.

Nursery:
The races were designed around the core theme. ‘Go Green’.

Race 1: ‘Sowing the Seed’ was an interesting game where On the command, children ran, picked up some seeds kept in a saucer, planted the seeds in a pot and ran towards the finishing line.
Race 2: ‘Watering the Plant’ was equally engaging where the children ran with water bottles, each child emptied a bottle in a potted plant .Then they ran to finish the race.

Kindergarten:
‘Find the Right word’ race- The children were given a slip each with a three-letter word written on it. They ran to pick the matching letters from a ring corresponding to their words and ran again to make the word and then run to the finishing line.

Adventure Trail - On the command, children ran zig-zag, cross the tunnel, crossed the bridge, balanced on the logs and finished the race.

The proud winners of the races were felicitated with medals and every participant was presented with a certificate. For little ones, it is important that they participate in Sports Day as they gradually get to understand that daily sports and games are a part of life. Children and teachers immensely enjoyed the Sports Day. The outcome was that they listened well and followed the instructions beautifully. This also helps in improving their movement and coordination skills. They learn to lead, follow and be part of a team.
