Global Indian International School (GIIS), Noida observed Martyr’s Day by conducting a special assembly in January, 2018 in the school’s multipurpose hall. The special assembly was conducted with an objective of apprising students about the importance Martyr’s day and the significance it holds for Indian citizens.

Starting with the special assembly, a heartfelt bhajan was dedicated to the martyrs for their unforgotten valour. Group of four students took everyone by surprise by reciting slogans on the sacrifice of young men who gave up their lives for the sake of their country. A small PowerPoint presentation was also shared among the students sharing the details about the incident that shook everyone back in year 1948 (i.e. Gandhi Ji’s assassination by Nathuram Godse).  Followed by a video recital on India’s freedom struggle i.e. instrumental role of Bhagat Singh and his troop in giving India the much required freedom from the British Raj was also highlighted through videos. The assembly ended by observing a 2 minute silence in order to pay respects to the freedom fighters of the nation.

Martyr’s day is a day of great significance, not only for India but also for 14 other countries in the world. It’s a day of national homage, as citizens of India and other countries pay tribute to the sacrifices of their freedom fighters. Also known as Shaheed Diwas or Sarvodaya Diwas, 30th January and 23rd March are two days on which India observes Martyr’s day to remember the most poignant days in the Indian history i.e. the days when Gandhi Ji was assassinated by Nathuram Godse and the day when Bhagat Singh, Shukhdev and Rajguru were hanged by the British officials for their war for independence respectively.
