Remembering Babasaheb and his Teachings; Baisakhi Celebrations at GIIS Noida

India is a land of great scholars and political personalities who brought freedom to the country from the British Empire. One such eminent personality among them was Dr. B.R. Ambedkar who was born in a small district of Madhya Pradesh on 14th April, 1891. He was a known jurist and received The Bharat Ratna Award was his outstanding campaign against the Dalit’s social discrimination, women and labour.

Also known as Babasaheb, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was India’s first law minister to head the Indian Constitution Drafting Committee in 1947. Celebrating his 126th birth anniversary, Grade 5 students of Global Indian International School (GIIS), Noida hosted a special assembly to commemorate his contributions and teachings. Beginning with a brief introduction about his personality and work done. Moving further, an elaborate power point presentation was presented by students which emphasised on need of eradicating the social evils our country is burned with. Discrimination, sex determination, dowry, racism, etc. are few such issues our country is still not over with. People still believe in the old customs which must be vanished to make our country secular and progressive.

Baishaki - a festival celebrated by farmers of the north India as a spring harvest festival was also celebrated by the students during the special assembly conducted. A beautiful song was sung by the school choir depicting the same enthusiasm north Indian farmers feel while harvesting their crops. Some interesting facts and reasons behind celebrating the festival were also shared with the students to make them understand how different parts of the same country celebrate different festivals with absolute fervour and excitement.

The objective behind conducting such special assemblies at GIIS Noida is to enrich our students which knowledge about various cultural aspects of the country, and to have a thorough understanding of the great work done by our great freedom fighters.

Concluding the assembly, national anthem was sung by each one present with utmost pride and emotion.
