The concept of 3R's has been there for long, for people to understand its importance and start implementing the concept in their own small way possible. This concept was initially introduced as a result of ill effects being produced due to mismanagement of waste products at home and industry levels. The 3R's concept is broadly divided into 3 main abstracts i.e.

• Reduce
• Reuse
• Recycle

Reduce the amount of waste produced. It not only contributes to the wellbeing of our environment but also helps in saving resources for later use. Reuse the articles instead of throwing it away. One can reuse piles of clothes or donate them to the needy instead of throwing them away. Recycle management is the most important aspect of 3R's. Recycle products to make your environment green and fresh again.

To promote the concept, an I-Care activity on 3R's was organized at Global Indian International School (GIIS), Noida with great zeal and enthusiasm. The activity provided an ideal opportunity to make children understand that it is our collective responsibility to protect the environment by reducing, reusing and recycling materials. Students of GIIS Noida participated in various activities conducted over three consecutive days.

• Day 1: A special assembly was conducted by grade 2 E students. They participated enthusiastically in various activities such as ‘Poem recitation on ‘Do not waste food’, did a Role play on 3R's, and sang a song on theme "3R's". The assembly conducted emphasized on the need and importance of reducing, reusing and recycling the available materials.

• Day 2: Informative videos on 3R's were shared among students of grade 1 and 2 in MPH of the school in order to generate awareness regarding what items can be reduced, reused and recycled. After the videos screening, children took an oath to protect the environment from getting polluted by effectively implementing the concept of 3R's. The objective behind conducting a quiz based activity was to bring forth the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling, so that our mother Earth can be kept clean and its resources are available for generations to come.

• Day 3: An in-class activity was conducted for grade 1 and 2 students where they were encouraged to craft beautiful pen stands using waste scrap CDs and old bangles.

The whole idea behind conducting a three day activity was to spread awareness about the benefits of reducing, reusing and recycling of material. The objective was well achieved as students learned by getting engaged in different activities which not only reinforced the concept in their minds, but also taught them about preventive measures one should take to preserve the resources for future use.
