Plant a Sapling; I-Care Plus Programme at GIIS Noida

SMART Campus team is runner-up at Chandu Borde T20 Tournament

School is a place which garners a sense of responsibility towards nature and its conservation among students. Since children are the future of tomorrow, educating them about preserving and balancing the environment becomes highly essential.

Promoting conservation of the greens and sensitivity towards the global issues, Global Indian International School (GIIS) Noida has designed a specific I-Care programme for the pre-primary and Grade 1& 2 students of the school. This programme helps a child in developing consciousness towards the environmental issues and the world they live in.

As a part of the I-Care programme, the theme for the month of February (for Montessori Wing and Grades 1&2) was Plant a Sapling. The concept was introduced as an indoor activity to the tiny tots. Children along with their class teachers planted seeds in little cups.

Students got to know about things required to grow and nurture a plant, various parts of the plant, and the importance they hold in our lives. Plants with medicinal values like neem, tulsi, amla, etc. were introduced to the pre-nursery, nursery and KG students. It was a fun filled day for our little stars, as they got to understand about the benefits of few plants with medicinal values and how they can help us in our day to day lives.

As they say learning is doing, children from grades 1&2 also had a fun filled Plant a Sapling activity. This activity served as an ideal opportunity for the kids to understand their social responsibility towards Mother Earth. Fascinated by the seed sowing process, hands on experience of planting seeds manually was the outcome obtained from the activity. It formed a personal connect between the students and the environment through a process of experience, reflection and creation. Students were also educated about plants that act as herbs and the medicinal value they contain for our general health and living.

The objective behind conducting this activity was to create awareness about our environment’s well-being, energy conservation and believe in the power of natural ingredients that do so much of good to human beings in more ways than imagined.
