Physical Life Experience activity for Pre-Primary; motor and sensory skill development

KG Graduation AUH

The ability to hold onto a particular posture/position while performing a task is known as balance. Balancing during and in between activities helps humans to function efficiently across environment without causing any physical harm to the body. This act of balancing becomes all the more important for children, as proper knowledge and understanding of performing day to day functions contribute in their effective growth and development.

To help develop hand eye coordination, concentration, motor skills and sensory development among pre-primary children of Global Indian International School (GIIS), Noida, a PLE (Physical Life Learning) activity was conducted by respective class teachers of each section in the class. The idea was to help each child acquire control over their coordination and gain independence. Each child of the class was given hands on experience (under teacher’s supervision) where they actively participated in pounding cornflakes using an electric motor and pestle based machine. While the activity was being conducted, teachers demonstrated the correct way of doing it in way that it allows children to observe movements closely.

Cornflakes and Marie biscuits were used to make the pounding activity more exciting and relatable for the tiny tots which they happily mixed with chocolate syrup and milkmaid to prepare small balls (laddoos) of chocolate.

Pounding cornflakes activity proved valuable as it helped in enhancing practical life skills and develop motor senses also. Children were doing numerous things at once which helped them utilize all their senses to achieve a perfect balance between their understanding and action points.
