Inter-GIIS Science Quiz Competition

Learning science has never been such fun when it is integrated with hands-on-learning. The joy of making the ‘dream-machine’ is the ultimate joy that any growing child can experience. Robotics and machine model-making are a way with GIIS when it comes to learning dynamics, mechanics and other elements of science like energy, power, circuit etc.

Inter-GIIS Science Quiz Competition was organized for students from classes III to VII by ENTECRES Labs Pvt. Ltd, STEM partner of GIIS. STEM coordinators, Ms. Mahak and Mr. Vivek Yadav conducted the quiz on the basis of different activities done in school to test the understanding of the concepts learnt so far.

Ms. Sunita Jai Singh, National Head, Academics, GIIS India, Mr. Rajeev Katyal, Country Director, GIIS India, Ms. Vaishali Borde National Co-scholastic Head India along with Principals of GIIS India were present to witness the quiz.

GIIS students form Surat, Indore, Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Noida campuses participated in the quiz. The quiz was conducted in two groups; Junior Group comprising 3 students from classes III and IV and Senior Group comprising 3 students from classes V, VI and VII. The quiz was conducted in 3 rounds; MCQ round, Rapid Fire Round and Visual Round.

The Quiz began with MCQ round. Each team was asked 3 questions, 10 marks were assigned for correct answer in first two rounds, 20 marks for third round, and half of designated marks on passing. Second round was Rapid Fire Round in which each team was asked 4 questions in one minute and 10 marks were assigned for each correct answer. Third round was Visual Round in which questions were asked based on the clippings/pictures and 20 marks were assigned for each correct answer. Each Team was asked 1 question and 15 seconds were allotted for answering.

For the Junior Group topics ranged from how birds fly to flying of airplanes and gliders, from seasons to planets, organs to machines like parachute, balloon car and other scientific concepts. The Senior Group touched upon topics like formation of Carbon mono-oxide, air pollution, Earth, Sun, magnetic levitation, reflection, LED, conductivity of water, water filter, speed of light, SI Unit of Mass, weight, Length, Temperature and the use of odometer in vehicle.

In the Visual Round, clippings and pictures were shown and each team was asked a question on subjects like conductor of electricity, point of high pressure in airplane and effect of current on iron rods etc.

The students competed neck-to-neck with each other and GIIS Ahmedabad won the first prize.

The second and third prizes was awarded to GIIS Bangalore and GIIS Indore respectively. Consolation prizes went to GIIS Noida and GIIS Surat.

Creativity, innovation and problem solving being an important area of expertise as per the 9 Gems- integrated learning framework, the competition proved to be a step towards larger accomplishments for future.
