“Let your food be your medicine, and let your medicine be food” said Hippocrates, The Father of Food.

Little did we know that illnesses and diseases are caused either by a deficiency or an excess of a nutrient. The medicines we intake to get cured are nothing but false ways of tricking the body into feeling non-sickness.

Late Kasturba Gandhi, w/o M.K Gandhi was one prominent supporter of green medicines. She was famous for promoting usage of green medicines, as she believed that ingredients from the kitchen could do wonders for the human body. Paying tribute and promoting Gandhian values, Green Medicine day was celebrated in great spirits and enthusiasm at Global Indian International School (GIIS) Noida.

Students from grades 1 to 9 paid homage to Kasturba Gandhi by conducting a special assembly. The tribute started with school prayer followed by a power point presentation on Green medicine and its benefits. Grade 8 students under the guidance of their mentor, Ms. Shikha D. Sharma took over the stage to explain medicinal properties of common herbs. Moving further, children of grade VIII explained in detail the medicinal benefits of few green medicines like ginger, coriander, peppermint, basil, thyme, etc., that have been curing common illness like cough, cold, nausea, allergies, cholesterol levels, etc. since ages. Emphasis on using these medicinal herbs in emergency situations were also highlighted by the students.

After the informative presentation session, an on the spot quiz competition was conducted. Questions were based on the ppt session conducted earlier. Moving towards the end, students who had won accolades under different sport categories, and cyber and science Olympiads were felicitated by Ms. Manisha Bhagee - Academic Coordinator, Primary and Middle school.
