Knowledge Exchange Session on Active and Passive Voice by Mr. Stephen Heldt from GIIS Tokyo

Sentences are a part of language. They simplify the understanding level of an individual which helps in framing meaningful responses and interactions.

To help children understand and appreciate the importance of “Voice” in a simplified way and through real life examples, a cross campus knowledge sharing session was conducted by Mr. Stephen Heldt - PGT English, GIIS Tokyo, for the students of Global Indian International School (GIIS) Noida, Ahmedabad and Tokyo.  The session conducted was for Grade _ students from all the campuses.

Beginning with the session. Mr. Heldt started by quoting visual examples which helped students in identifying different parts of a sentence i.e. the concept, the subject and the object. He engaged students in question – answer rounds which ultimately helped them using their mind horses for the correct answer. As the session moved further, he took various sentences to explain which word becomes the verb, the subject, past participle verb, etc., thus clarifying the concept in a much better manner.

The objective of this cross campus training was to help students appreciate “Voice”, identify sentences as Active and Passive, and be able to clearly distinguish between the both. It gave students a fair idea about the importance of tenses and how they remain unchanged during a conversation.

Cross campus teaching was introduced in all our campuses with an aim of providing a seamless knowledge sharing and gaining experience. Students get a chance to learn and understand by exceptional teachers present in other GIIS campuses through Video conferencing. In a way, this practice allows our students to become more confident as they get to interact with students and teachers from different cultures, communities and intellectual levels.
