Mahatma Gandhi rightly said “if we want to reach real peace in life, we must start educating children”: children are the soul of any society, whatever they learn or imbibe, becomes an integral part of their personality. Mahatma Gandhi Centre for Universal Values is the cornerstone of education at every Global Indian International School campus. Taking forward the learnings of this centre GIIS Noida conducts various value-based learning activities throughout the year, ensuring each and every child at the GIIS Noida campus understands and follows-universal values in his or her daily lives.
To commemorate the birthday of Kasturba Gandhi, Green Medicine Day was celebrated with full enthusiasm by students of Grade I to VIII. A special assembly was conducted within the campus, to help students understand the importance of natural greens and their usefulness in daily lives. Class VII students presented a power point presentation on varied aspects of Green Medicine i.e. Personal Green, Local Green, and Global Green. The main objective was educate students about natural ingredients present at our home’s kitchen by engaging them in an array of fun filled activities.
GIIS Noida marked Martyrs’ Day i.e. death anniversary ok M. K. Gandhi. A special assembly was conducted by Grade IV to VII students of the school in fond memory of Mahatma Gandhi and other glorious leaders of old times. Students participated with full patriotism showcasing various activities, paying tribute to great leaders of our nation. Keinisha of Grade VIII shared her insightful knowledge by discussing about last days of Gandhi ji’s life. Aditya Anand of Grade III gave a musical tribute to Baapu by playing two of his most preached bhajans - ‘Vaishnavo Jana Te’ and ‘Vandemataram’ on keyboard. Apart from the special assembly conducted, students even participated in collage making, writing letters to our freedom fighters, etc. Students were emotional and sensitized to learn how hard our freedom fighters tried to make India free and an independent country.
Independence Day and Republic Day were also celebrated at GIIS Noida with full zeal. Patriotic songs, plays, poems, etc. were used as a medium to mark the spirit of these important days of national repute. Moving ahead with general values and habits, a cleanliness drive was conducted at the GIIS Noida campus on birth anniversary of the Mahatma Gandhi. Post launch of the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ by Shri Narendra Modi, students of school took an opportunity to elaborate importance of cleanliness in one’s life and surroundings. Slogans, and charts were made, along with cleanliness rallies broadcasted the message aptly. The activity was organized to inculcate values of humanity, brotherhood, and secularism among GIISians. Community Connection being an important aspect of 9 Gems learning framework, the cleanliness drive was a notable step in the direction.
Taking the initiative forward towards a global community, the Eco Five team represented GIIS Noida at the Quality Circle Presentations held at GIIS Singapore, East Coast campus.
On 6th August a special assembly was conducted on Peace Day to pay tribute to the brave messenger of peace, Sudoko who was a victim of Hiroshima bombing. In her memory, students made paper cranes of peace. The event started with a prayer symbolizing serenity. Students of grade III - V danced to convey Gandhi’s message of “United We Stand, Divided We Fall”.
Assembly on Ambedkar Jayanti was also celebrated in the campus to mark Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s birth and his contributions. Students presented stages of his life via a small skit. This small act was directed towards showcasing the conditions of lower castes in our society and what measures should be taken to improve them.
Grandparents Day, Father’s Day and Mother’s Day are celebrated in the school to remind the students the value of family in their lives.
Community Helpers’ Day is held for pre-primary students to educate them on the role that each helper plays in order to make the environment conducive for living. They learn to respect the dignity of labour and apathy for the work they do.
At GIIS Noida humility and compassion are inculcated in students to remain grounded and connected..
