IT’S THAT TIME OF THE YEAR AGAIN!!

Ramanujan and IT Week

Come February and everything takes a very sour turn.

Children whom you had seen jumping and frisking yesterday just seem sapped of the usual exuberance.

From teachers in the classroom to parents, everyone is worried. All attention is on the term end summative exam of the second half of the academic session.

But having said that, I can’t help saying, there are some children who keep their equanimity. They seem to be bearing up pretty well!

So, what is the secret?

Is it the right kind of stress handling? Is it that they are more intelligent and learn faster? Are their parents’ better guides?

None of the above are wholly true.

We keep counselling children and parents alike through the year about being consistent and regular and get the timing for everything right.

I am giving below a few things which can be used as good advice during these trying times:

  1. Plan your year carefully for the visits and vacations. Untimely leaves lead to pending work.
  2. Plan your home time table at the beginning of the year. Most children don’t do this and wait till the problem of incomplete assignments and unprepared for projects and FA/SA snowballs hits them.
  3. We talk about beginning with revision only on syllabus completion!
  4. Revision remedies the grey areas and is a must do after each DA /FA which does not happen by magic but by sheer planning and perseverance.
  5. You may ask -How can one revise? The chapters are so lengthy?
My answer is -They would not have seemed lengthy if broken in bits of three paragraphs a day. Regular revision (thrice a week) at home for subjects like Soc. Science and Science is a must do, in like fashion.
    1. Always shut your book and note book after you have revised a portion of the text.
    2. Take your jotter book and start putting down the points you read, in a random fashion (bulleted) under a topic head or sub head.
    3. When you feel that you have no more points left, turn over the book and check.
    4. Please rectify your list and add the missed point/points.
    5. This will keep you in the writing habit and also improve your capacity for remembering your noted points.
    6. Better time management will eventually come out from this exercise.
  6. Time management is as critical as the home time table planning as mentioned above...
  7. You can listen to music and even engage in art and craft /scrabble etc. when taking a break between study of one subject and another.
  8. Keeping your meals lighter and frequent will also help. Avoid snacking on pizza and burgers as they will make you sluggish.

In the exam hall:

  1. Please listen to the invigilator’s instructions carefully.
  2. When it is time to read the question paper – do so without panicking.
  3. Keep calm at all times.
  4. As far as possible, answer the questions that you know best first. Do not sit and waste precious time over questions which seem less familiar.
  5. Do the lesser known questions last.
  6. Always revise your answers along with questions.
  7. Keep your Exam things ready. Forgetting instruments and pens to school on exam days can cause panic and unnecessary hassle.
  8. Hope for the best.

With best wishes
From your Principal
