GIIS Noida celebrates Gandhi Jayanti by conducting an Inter-School Peace Relay

Drawing inspiration from the very word PEACE, and wishing to contextualise it for the youth of today, Global Indian International School Noida conducted the 1st Inter School Peace Relay on 1st October 2016, to mark the 146th birth anniversary of the Father of our Nation, Mahatma Gandhi which falls on 2nd October.

An innovative initiative of GIIS Noida, the Peace Relay at an inter-school level was organized and invites for the same were sent across to various schools in Noida. The objective was to use peace messages instead of batons to put across a message - humans beings are the real carriers of peace, and in today’s world of much violence, human intervention can only sustain peace on earth.

Students from the Millennium School, Noida and JKG International School, Indirapuram and GIIS Noida took part in the Peace Relay organized in the school premises. Each team had 7 participants covering 7 laps of hundred meters each. Each participant covered one lap before handing over the message to their teammate carrying the relay further. Moving towards the second half of the ceremony, each team had to read out a peace message passed during the relay, and explain its relevance to the audience. Each team carried a peace banner with a powerful message written on it, which added to the whole peace relay celebrations at school. After being judged on rubrics like relevance of peace message and speech impact, winners were felicitated with trophies and certificates by our honourable judges - Ms. Vaishali Borde -National Head Co- Scholastics, Mr. Rajeev Katyal - Country Director, India and Mr. Naveen Pandey - Manager Administration GIIS.

This event, powered by Mahatma Gandhi Centre for Universal Values, was an initiative to establish the importance of peace among children, and make them familiar with the process of acquiring values, knowledge, and developing the right attitude, skills and behaviour that allow them to live in harmony at an individual, social and environmental level.
