This is the essence of learning which we practice in school today, and it is very different from what we have had in our times.  We all know that there is a need to connect different areas of study across curriculum and emphasize on the unifying concepts.

Integration is the key word today which focuses on making relevant connections for students, allowing them to engage in relevant, meaningful activities that can be connected to real life. We at GIIS Noida focus on integrated learning, instead of teaching each topic in isolation. Students are encouraged to learn the same topic through different perspectives. Teaching in an integrated way results in much higher engagement of students in class. As teachers, we experiment different methods which focus on different Multiple Intelligences (MI) as every student has a different learning style, needs and abilities.

It is important for a teacher to hold the class together by using different teaching aids like audio - visual, hands on activities where students can touch, feel, move around, imagine and think out of the box.

Focus here at GIIS Noida is in integrated teaching i.e. conceptual understanding of the topic. It is an important form of learning which encourages independence as well as combines active learning. It allows an individual to think critically and be able to solve their problems themselves. There are different ways a teacher needs to adapt to make that critical thinking develop amongst her students. We as teachers need to ask a lot questions, like “What do you think this book will be about?” Or “Tell me three things you think you will be learning in this lesson about nature?” Give students every opportunity you can, to become critical thinkers and ace that ability. It is always easy for a teacher to give solutions to student’s problem but it takes lot of effort on the teacher’s part to make that child understand and develop critical thinking and problem solving abilities.

Understanding the concept is important, but what’s more essential is to make real world connections so that the students are better quipped for the real world challenges they might face in future.

And at the same time, it is equally imperative for the teacher to create activities that are challenging, fun, yet meaningful that help students relate to information. At GIIS Noida, we try to create equal learning opportunities for our children whether they are visual learners or kinesthetic learners.
