Commemorating the great soul on Martyr@aps@s Day

Martyr@aps@s Day

Martyrs’ Day marks the death anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. To mark this day, under the aegis of the Mahatma Gandhi Centre for Universal Values, students from Class IV to VIII of Global Indian International School Noida conducted an assembly in memory of Mahatma Gandhi and other great leaders of our country who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for India’s freedom.

The day started by offering a floral homage to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi by Principal, Ms. Nandita Dasgupta. Sarva-dharma-prayer spread the message of religious tolerance and mutual respect followed by an insight into the last days of Gandhi’s life by Keinisha of Class VIII. The students were sensitised to Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy  of non-violence. Aditya Anand, a student of Class III played the keyboard on Gandhi’s favourite bhajan, ‘Vaishnavo Jana te’ and ‘Vandemataram’. Ms. Nandita Dasgupta, stated that none can replace such a great leader who has sacrificed his entire life for the sake of his country. A minute’s silence was maintained at 11.10 A.M. by the entire school to honour the great soul, Mahatma Gandhi. The assembly ended with the National Anthem.

Various activities were undertaken by the primary classes. Students of class IV made collages with pictures of the freedom fighters and wrote patriotic slogan. Students of classes V & VI were asked to write letters to the freedom fighter of their choice, imagining him to be living and communicating to him how he inspires their lives. Students of classes VII & VIII were divided into four zones i.e. north, south, east and west and were asked to identify any one great freedom fighter from their allotted zone and write a short note on the contribution of that martyr in the independence movement.

The students were sensitised to the emotions and history attached to Martyr’s Day and how as responsible citizens they can make a difference to the society.
