Books are the essence of life; GIIS Noida observes Book Week

Minister Green

To inculcate a habit of reading and to encourage reading as a source of pleasure among tiny tots of the school, Book Week was observed by the pre-primary wing of Global Indian International School (GIIS), Noida. A five day celebration was carried out through various activities in classrooms and the library that involved teachers and parents to bring forth the value of reading.

Day 1: Story narration of moral based stories by pre-primary teachers
Teachers from respective nursery and K.G sections enacted short moral based stories with use of various props, hand puppets, story books, etc. They took up stories that gave some useful message to our students, like teachers enacted the story of the Magical tree, honest woodcutter, etc. that taught our students about virtues of honesty and truthfulness.

Day 2: Story narration by mothers of students in pre-primary
Mothers of our tiny tots made our Book week celebrations all the more lively by voluntarily joining our story narration act. They actively participated in enacting short stories using props, books, hand puppets, etc. to make our students understand how books can really change their lives in a positive way.

Day 3: Weave a story
Teachers gave topics to children during circle time/story time. Each child got a chance to weave a story around it. Teachers even encouraged the children to weave the story in continuation of the previous child that gave a boost to their imaginative and creative side of the personality.

Day 4: Art and Craft Activity
Tiny tots were engaged in bookmark making activity where each little one of the pre-primary wing made beautiful bookmarks for themselves. This activity was an attempt to bring out the artistic quotient among children and increase their interest towards reading more and more books.

Day 5: Dress up Day
Children came dressed up in the costumes of their favourite story character and spoke 2-3 lines about them. Little ones dressed as their favourite story character made conclusion of the Book Week celebrations memorable.

Book week was full of literary and creative activities with beautiful and innovative story corners set up in classes to create interest and atmosphere of reading. The objective was also to imbibe good values through moral stories. The Book week celebrations gave our students an opportunity to explore new books too while they visited the school library. It helped them improve communication skills and vocabulary, build confidence, and work out their imagination while weaving a story in a group.
