Chess is game of mind and tactics. Years to its invention, Chess is known to manifest and strengthen critical thinking, reasoning, problem solving and various other mental abilities that build children into exceptional personalities. Understanding the importance and significance of the game, GIIS has incorporated it as an important sport amongst others, at all its campuses round the globe.

 A recent achievement to the Chess genre has been by a little champ of GIIS Noida, Riya Pachoury. Student of grade 6, Riya along with Karan Gupta participated in the first ever Aster District Level Chess Championship – 2016 for children under the age category of 6, 9 and 11 years. After competing 15 schools and 150 opponents, Riya Pachoury bagged first prize in the under 11 category, paving way for her selection in the UP State level Chess Championship for U-11 age Category. Following the footsteps, Master Karan Gupta bagged the fourth spot in the championship held at Aster Public School Noida.

Students are trained on theory and practical of the game, and educated on essential moves which may help them in turning the game to their credit. Both the students have been taking training on the game for good number of months and trying very hard to understand the concepts which has worked for their good.

GIIS Noida is an institution where academics and sports are given equal importance and promotion. Students are always encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities or get trained in any sport or creative activity of their choice. By doing this, we intent to felicitate holistic development of children which makes them an individual of distinctive personality, both mentally and physically.
