“Mathematics is the abstract key which turns the lock of the physical universe”!

GIIS KL dedicated a week to celebrate ‘Math For You - Season 2’ from 25th to 29th May,15 with the objective of ,“make children view Math as a fun-filled and interesting subject which is also challenging and rewarding”. The event was organized in partnership with GIIS’ online learning mathematics partner - Heymath!, coordinated with Mathematics Department under Mr. Ramesh Karnati (CBSE) and Ms. Selva Priya (Cambridge).

Activities like Math Maze, Coordinate Geometry, Tangrams/Sudoku, Math Trail, Math modelling etc proved that children show a natural inclination for mathematics, and it@aps@s important that we (both teachers and parents) should take advantage of this critical time in a child@aps@s education and build the foundation that will allow that interest and engagement to continue well into adulthood.

On 27th May, as part of the celebrations, the students had an interesting Math session with Mr. Sam Liew, a Senior Lecturer from INTI college who based his talk on the ‘Power of the Hand’ and demonstrated basic math concepts in an easy way by using fingers, and also enabled them to understand that math can be approached in a fun way too.

On the Grand Finale day, students organized a Food Court which sold items made by them with geometrical shapes and mathematical numbers. The proceeds collected are being given to charity. It was heartening to have parents who turned up in large numbers to encourage the winner students and also to participate enthusiastically in activities like Math Maze and Math quiz which were especially organized for the parents. Mr. Ramesh Karnati, HOD Math presented a report which highlighted the learning outcomes of the week followed by the Closing Ceremony and distribution of prizes.

‘Math For You - Season 2’ was successful in bringing to the fore, the potential abilities of all students (and, parents as well). Indeed, the math skills that students learnt will definitely build a foundation for future learning and develop the ability to overcome new challenges in the future.
