As the name suggests, it has been a great honour to have been a part of the celebration commemorating the 125th Birth Anniversary of this great man Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. It was organised by the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Indian Cultural Centre, Kuala Lumpur. Mr. Y. L. Rao the Director of NSCBICC invited me to be the Master of Ceremonies which I accepted with great pleasure. Ms. Sridevi of GIIS was also there to ensure the students representing GIIS were taken care of.

In the August company of His Excellency Shri T. S. Tirumurti, Hon@aps@ble High Commissioner of India to Malaysia, Mr. Rajiv Ahir, Counsellor (Community Affairs & Labour), the judges for the evening Mrs. Shubhra Pande First Secretary Consular, Mr. Brahma Kumar First Secretary Commerce of High Commission of India and Mr. Joseph George former President of Bharat Club and Principal of GIIS Mr. Harvendra Singh Khalsa it was an evening to write home about.

The NSCBICC had planned for this event a month in advance, wherein, one of the events was an Essay Writing competition on the topic @aps@Dr. Ambedkar and Social Reforms@aps@ in which 58 students from the two schools i.e. GIIS & Vikas International school participated. After evaluation the three top winners were chosen & two special prizes were included as they were difficult to ignore.

The evening began with the reading of the excerpts from the winning essays by Ms. Srinidhi Srinivasan, 1st prize, GIIS, Ms. Malvika Koushik, 2nd prize, GIIS & Mr. Sneh Patel, 3rd prize, Vikas International School. The children had put in a lot of efforts in writing out the essays and they deserved to be recognized. Each of the other participants was given a @aps@Certificate of Participation@aps@ for their contribution.

Following the reading, we had an extempore speaking competition which was judged on the spot by the judges of the evening mentioned earlier. The topic was @aps@Ambedkar and the making of modern India@aps@. Each contestant was given 4-5 mins. Jiyana Thankam Jaico of class 10A, GIIS secured 3rd place. The 1st & 2nd spots went to Vikas International School. All other participants were given a @aps@Certificate of Participation@aps@. I would like to mention here that there were a lot of things that I learnt from the children, them having put in all the efforts.

We had two presentations that were made and presented by the children of GIIS & Vikas respectively. The presenters for GIIS were Ms. Anjana Manikandan & Ms. Malvika Koushik. They did a smashing job of it.

The most exciting event of the evening was the Quiz on @aps@Freedom Movement@aps@ by Quiz Master Mr. Movin Miranda. There were four teams, two each from GIIS & Vikas International School. With great pride I@aps@d like to mention that we swept the awards. The team that came first was Team A - Priyanka Srikumar & Arvind Alagappan Rajkumar followed by Team C - Pramithi Shekhar & Muskan Pankaj Kumar in second place. It was indeed an @aps@Edge of the Seat@aps@ event.

With His Excellency@aps@s inspirational words the event drew to a close with the prizes and certificates given to the contenders. It was indeed an evening well spent which was both informative and entertaining. Looking forward to more of such events as we progress through the year.

Congratulations to all who have been a part of the competition and wishing everyone good luck for more accolades to be brought in.
