We support Green; GIIS Indore pays tribute to Kasturba Gandhi

Green Initiative

Today students of Global Indian International School (GIIS) Indore celebrated Green Medicine Day with spirits in the fond memory of Kasturba Gandhi, wife of M.K. Gandhi. She was a lady of substance who was known for her love towards nature and natural medicines made from household ingredients.

To mark the death anniversary of Late Kasturba Gandhi, a special assembly was conducted by the students. After the regular prayer session, a short introduction on the visionary lady (i.e. Late Smt. Kasturba Gandhi) was shared to enlighten the audience with her charismatic work and personality. Importance of consuming spices, condiments and green herbs as mentioned in the Ayurveda – The Science of Life, for individual holistic benefit was also shared by the students. PowerPoint presentation to showcase advantages of some commonly used medicinal plants were put forth by students of grade 8.

Concluding the assembly on a positive note, prize distribution ceremony to felicitate school’s Karate champions who participated in WFSKO Open National Karate Championship held at Ujjain and WFSKO Open Asian International Karate Championship held at Mumbai was held. Mr. Arpit Vaidya – Academic Co-ordinator, GIIS Indore felicitated the winners with medals and certificates.

Keeping the spirits alive, students from Grades 1-9 put up an exhibition to commemorate the significance of celebrating the Green Medicine Day. A variety of medicinal plants were showcased during the exhibit along with their benefits for good health and fitness. Since many green plants possess healing powers within themselves, use of Tulsi, Neem, Coriander, Mint, Alovera, etc. was shared in detail by our enthusiastic pupils. Supporting their cause, children also demonstrated the medicinal benefits of using household ingredients like onion, ginger, turmeric, celery, etc. which they brought from their very own kitchens at home.

Colourful charts, enthusiasm and a lot of learning marked end of the Green Day Celebrations at GIIS Indore. Dr. (Capt.) Dinisha Bhardawaj – Principal, GIIS Indore encouraged students to use natural medicines and advised them to rely less on plastic medicines that do no benefit to our immune system in any way.
