Indore 12th December
The Second Inter-GIIS Chess Championship 2014-15 was hosted at GIIS Indore campus. It was a priceless opportunity for students from GIIS campuses of Bangalore, Surat, Noida, Indore and Chinchwad to participate in this exigent championship.
Team GIIS Indore as the host campus had taken care of the smallest details; right from planning schedule, arrival times of the trains from various locations to Indore. A grand welcome in traditional Indore style awaited the teams with garlanding and turban-tying. It was followed by an evening full of fun, games, magic show and jam session around a camp fire, as an ice-breaker exercise.
The cool Indore morning of the 12th of December dawned with high expectations and butterflies in the stomach. The championship was inaugurated by Mr. Rajeev Katyal, Country Director GIIS, India. After administrating the oath for fair play, he implored the students to give it their best shot and to take winning and losing in their stride.
The venue for the championship was all set as per international standards, the arbiters were ready and the games started with high aplomb. During the main frame Chess tournament, it was commendable to see the enthusiasm of the ingenious students. As round after round was played, the emotions of the champions fluctuated from remorse to happiness, from grief to joy.
The results were declared in a sensational closing ceremony. Mr. Akshat Khamperia, an International Chess player gave away the trophies to the winners.
“We started our preparations for the 2nd Inter GIIS Chess Championship in right earnest! It was our dream that this event should turn out to be the most memorable with memories to cherish forever. I am glad that the tournament received a huge response in terms of participation and the quality of the game was immensely enhanced.” said. Vaishali, the Co-scholastic head for Academics and the chief organiser of the event.
