School is an institution responsible for creating and nurturing responsible citizens of tomorrow. Students are a prized possession of any educational infrastructure and their safety during the study hours becomes all the more important for the management. Global Indian International School Indore conducted a ‘Fire and Safety Drill’ on August 27, 2016 to teach students about the measures to follow in case of an emergency.

All the students, staff members and teachers were asked to gather in the school ground and were taught about the safety measures and precautions to be taken, in case of fire at any location.

Mr. Sumit Sachan, BDM from UltraSafe Equipments Pvt. Ltd., explained the causes of fire at various places and taught about the precautionary measures to be taken at the time of fire break-out. He further educated our students on functioning of fire equipments deployed in the school for everyone’s safety. He also demonstrated the functioning of cease fire equipment (cylinder), applying formula ‘PASS’ i.e. P – Pull the pin, A – Aim the target, S – Squeeze the lever, S – Swap side by side, along with the kind of first aid that should be given in case a person acquires fire burns.

After the mock session, Grade 9 students were asked to demonstrate the use of various pins, according to the drill shown. Other students were asked random questions and demonstrated the procedure of immediate first aid to be offered to deal with the injuries.

The drill session aimed at introducing the students to disaster management and enhancing their knowledge about various hazards that might occur while being at any structural institution. It also ensured their corrective learning. General awareness, proper communication, knowledge about the pre and post action plan and faster rehabilitation were achieved at the end of the session organized.
