Preserving Heritage of Indore; INTACH initiative

Safety Week_ GIIS Balewadi

With an objective of sensitizing students who are the future of our country, and to inculcate a deep sense of belonging and responsibility towards their own heritage, GIIS Indore organised a visit to Krishnapura chhatries for grade 5 students. This project was undertaken as a part of the INTACH association each GIIS campus in India maintains to promote conservation of the historic monuments and art forms.

The Krishna Pura chhatri at Indore is an old monument that symbolizes bravery and courage. It was built in late 1800s in the fond memory of the Holkars. The tombs built have been created on the cremation spot of the Holkar rulers near Rajwada. The Krishna Pura Chhatri is one of the most beautiful architectural heritage spots present in the Indore city.

Grade 5 students who visited the monument were thrilled to witness such a historic symbol of pride and honour for the city. Teachers accompanied students to explain them about the glorified past and facts relative to the architectural beauty of the palace. As they toured the place, they witnessed the triplet Krishna Pura chhatris and a temple built for the queen. The even got an opportunity to see the chhatri were the statue of fighting soldiers, musicians, courtiers, etc. have been engraved. The artistic external carving on the idols and figures of God and Goddesses made it distinctive.

Coming forth to the main objective, students enthusiastically cleaned the ground and wiped off the dirt as they shouted out slogans to save our heritage, mother Earth, and the environment. Global Indian International School (GIIS) Indore students took the initiative of “Conserving Heritage” and supported their cause with beautiful handmade hoarding in sync with the Swach Bharat Abhiyan initiated by the Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendera Modi. They broomed and cleaned the areas associated to the Holkar’s chhatri. Each student took an oath to maintain the historical places of the study in one way or the other.

The youth of the country has the brain and skills to protect and conserve the lovely heritage of the country. Conservation can happen only if we take corrective steps towards maintaining the heritage sites. Each citizen of country must take effective part in maintaining our rich heritage, so that the future generation can take the legacy forward.
