With an aim to spread the message of peace, love and communal harmony, Global Indian International School (GIIS), Indore observed Peace day in the school campus with great emotions. To mark the occasion, a special assembly was conducted by grade 7 students of the school, under the esteemed guidance of Ms. Shweta Vyas.

To portray their respect and pay a tribute to the peace initiators of our country, students from different grades participated in decorating the assembly hall area with beautiful posters and paper cranes, created to support the theme. Starting with the special assembly a beautiful poem was presented by Sambhav Jain followed by a short story on violence and the need of harmony and humanity in the world by Jatin Dhawad.

Ms. Priyashri Dubey presented a heart touching PPT on the causes and effects of atomic bomb explosions that happened at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The intent was to make the audience understand the agony and pain people of Hiroshima and Nagasaki went through as they suffered the ill effects of atomic bombs. The story of a little girl Sadako who got severely affected by Leukaemia due to the bombings was also shared with students. Her pain was beyond anyone’s tolerance. With a hope to spread the message of loving mankind and hating war, she departed from this world making people realize that war can bring nothing but destruction of life.

From the day of Sadako’s demise, cranes became the symbol of peace for mankind in Japan and across the world. Feelings of destruction, wrath and rage among people are so high that people have forgotten that war and fight can never provide real peace to any city, country or world. Peace can only be achieved through mutual efforts and love for all God creations.

Giving a beautiful end to such a stirring topic, students from all the grades gathered in the playground to form a peace chain i.e. symbol of peace in form of a human chain. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. (Capt.) Dinisha Bhardawaj - Principal, GIIS Indore motivated students to practice peace in daily routine as peace begins from within and then spreads around us. Principal Ma’am even got a little emotional while she discussed instances that reinforced the need of peace and harmony among all and how love and mutual understanding can eradicate violence, pain and destruction from our lives so gracefully. She emphasized on individual efforts like tolerance, forgiveness and kindness to be practiced in order to receive actual peace among oneself.
