Global Indian International School organized an Inter GIIS Sports Championship in Indore

Global Indian International School organized an inter school sports championship in their Indore campus between March 30 - March 31, 2017. Starting with a welcome program planned by the host school, the event was inaugurated by the very famous Cricket commentator Padmashri Sushil Doshi. The event saw participation from all the GIIS campuses in India, namely Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chinchwad, Indore, Noida & Surat. The two-day event, ended with a prize distribution ceremony on the second day where the winners were awarded by Mr. Kirti Patel who represented India in the Under-17 and 19 cricket team. He received The Vikram Award in the year 1992-93 and is also the chairman of the M. P. Ranji Selection Committee.

Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Rajeev Katyal spoke about the value sports hold in one’s life. He enlightened everybody on the increased importance GIIS Schools across Asia give to Sports. He also shared his happiness on the victories our students have got throughout the year.

Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Patel motivated students to give their best shot. Winning or losing is a part of the game, it doesn’t mean that the losing party lacked something, it simply means they have more time to make their skills better than ever.

Beginning from 8:30am, the first day witnessed a tough competition as the brainy kids from grade 5th - 8th competed in the Chess competition. All matches were conducted by United Indore Chess Club, affiliated to Sate Level Chess Association, MP. The nail biting championship ended with GIIS Chinchwad, Pune winning the competition. The first runners up and second runners-up trophy was bagged by GIIS Bangalore and GIIS Ahmedabad respectively. Mr. Kapil Saxena International Chess Arbiterand joint secretary at All India Federation of Chess and Mr. Manish Joshi Secretary of Madhya Pradesh Chess Association gave away the prizes. The second day of the championship was all about play as the students participated in Cricket and Football Matches.

The matches in cricket were played on a League cum Knock out basis between the Under-14 students. With an 8 over per inning format, the match was supervised with Umpires & scorers registered with the MPCA & IDCA officiating the tournament. The winner of the match were GIIS Surat. Man of the match and Best Batsman title was given to Om Patel and Suyash Tiwari of GIIS Surat. Man of the series and Best bowler title was bagged by Mehul Patel of GIIS Indore.

For Football Championship, the matches were played between students of grade 5th - 8th on a League cum Knock out basis. The matches had two equal halves, 20 minutes each with a break of 5 minutes. 3 substitute players were allowed during the match. The winner of the final match was GIIS Chinchwad, Pune. First and Second Runner’s up trophy was bagged by GIIS Noida and GIIS Bangalore respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Vaishali Borde - National Head Co-Scholastics said - “Inter GIIS Sports Championship is a platform given to students of GIIS to compete at the National level. Students across teams travel, get together, make friends; becomes a major motivating factor. Winning and losing is a part of the game but competing is important. I am delighted to see the enthusiasm increase every year, the techniques improving by leaps and bounds and the standard of the game reaching unusual heights.

My best wishes for more such championships. We plan to add another level by having couple of tournaments for girls next year.”
