Educating parents about gender sensitivity and equality has acquired great importance over the past few years. Increasing awareness about the importance of Gender Sensitization and how essential it is for apt growth and development of an Individual, Global Indian International School Indore conducted an interactive session for all the parents of the campus.

The session was imparted by Dr. Captain Dinisha Bhardwaj Singh, Principal GIIS Indore. To begin with, Dr. Bhardwaj expressed her views on the topic, and established the problems that children face during their growth years. She emphasized on immediately handling problems like gender discrimination, sexual harassment and other objectionable behaviours which directly hamper a child’s growth to a great extent.

As the session continued, many sensitive topics like “Educating children about sex and to what extent?”, “right age for sex education?” etc. were taken up and discussed in lengths. Parents were also enlightened about the role they should play in educating their child. Guidelines on how to deal with common problems like stress/ consciousness due to physical changes, etc. were also given to parents.

The objective behind conducting the workshop was to generate awareness about the need of sex education to parents, and to stress upon the fact that parents are the primary sexual health educators of a child. They only can ease the nervousness and other relative problems faced by their child during growth years. Each parent actively exchanged views on the role of family, impact of religion, media, career and profession in the process of gender sensitization.
