“In a gentle way, you can shake the world.” Mahatma Gandhi

A special assembly was held at GIIS Surat to celebrate ‘Gandhi Jayanti’. It began with a rendition of Bapu’s favorite devotional song, “Raghupati Raghav” sung by the students to pay homage to the great leader and the ‘Father of the Nation’, Mahatma Gandhi. The programme started with the garlanding of the statue of the Mahatma by Dr. Capt. Dinesha Bharadwaj, Principal GIIS Indore and the guests who attended the celebration. Students from Pre-primary section were dressed as the ‘three monkeys’ of Gandhi, who would say no evil, hear and no evil and say no evil. The students enacted a skits on topics like untouchability and bullying. It was followed by a presentation on ‘Journey of Gandhi’ and a quiz on the life of the Mahatma, highlighting the values and ethics that Gandhi strived to inculcate in the society.

Students and the Principal of Govt. Middle School joined the celebration. ‘Daan Ustav’; a mass social service campaign for underprivileged children was conducted by placing a wish tree; where the students of the government school wrote their wishes on small similes which were pasted on it. GIIS family procured gifts for these children with the money donated by all the students and staff of GIIS.

Gandhi Jayanti was also marked by the presence of Shri M. of Manav Ekta Mission, who is currently leading the ‘Walk of Hope’ or Padayatra for peace and harmony, from Kanyakumari to Kashmir traversing the varied landscape of India, seeking for a restored nation. He visited the Mahatma Gandhi Centre for Universal Values at GIIS Indore and as a tribute to Gandhi spun the Charkha.

A special cleanliness drive to mark the Swatchhata Abhiyaan was done in the school campus in which all the students and staffs participated.

“The whole world is a large family and it is this feeling that we wish to inculcate at GIIS. The students, parents and teachers will work together and create a Familistic society, which will be for the best interest of the society and country at large”
