Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival

Engaging students in sports and physical activities always work for the benefit of our students. However, what holds prime importance here is the direction in which individual energies are channelized and put into action.

With an objective of encouraging students to play sports and achieve greater levels of expertise in the same, Global Indian International School Indore conducted its Annual Sports Day in the school premises with utmost enthusiasm and spirit. Mr. Verma (Coach of Indian Sports Authority) along with Mr. Ravi Tiwari (Journalist Free Press, Indore) and Mr. Sumit Suri (Infrastructure Partner) graced the annual event with their esteemed presence.

Declaring the meet open, Mr. Verma along with other eminent chief guests motivated our students to give their best shot, and play with their best foot forward. Prior to this, the torch lighting ceremony took place where a relay of runners carried the torch to its destination, lighting the cauldron near the pedestal on the playground.

Beginning with the day, respective houses (i.e. Sunflower, Orchid, Chrysanthemum, and Hibiscus) march passed with their house flags. Post Salutation to the guests of honour, oath taking ceremony for the newly elected school council took place under the esteemed accomplishment of Dr. (Capt.) Dinisha Bhardawaj (Principal). Moving ahead with actual sports events, several races with interesting concepts were conducted for students from nursery to grade IX.

Since, the annual sports was celebrated near the Christmas Eve, many races for the tiny tots were inspired by occasion, i.e. Santa race, Christmas tree decoration race, etc. were organized with great preparations. Apart from these, Pearl in the Castle, 100 mt hurdle race, 100 mt buddy race, sack race, etc. were organized for the grownups.

Keeping the fervour alive, students from different grades participated in the Yoga demonstration act where they presented various asans under the guidance of Ms. Dayaben Patel (Teacher, GIIS Indore). PT and Karate skills were also exhibited by the students under the guidance of school’s karate and P.E. faculty.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Verma spoke at length about benefits of sports, and how competing with others should be one’s last motive while playing any game. The focus should always be on mastering the skills and learning the true essence of sportsmanship, that eventually makes one a good human being. Mr. Tiwari on the other hand, motivated students to properly utilize their energies in exploring their true sports talent.

Dr. Capt. Dinisha Bhardawaj while addressing the audience expressed her concerns about the increased academic burden, due to which students can’t focus much on their favourite sport. But here at GIIS, the curriculum designed allows students in maintaining good balance between both i.e. academics and sports.

Moving towards the closure, the day could not end without parents participating in the games specially organized for them. Enthusiastic parents participated in Tug-O-War and Couple Race with great spirits and gusto. All the race winners were felicitated by the chief guests with medals and certificates. Students who had brought laurels home, by participating in various games at national and state level were also felicitated in the prize distribution ceremony.
