Yoga Mantra and Musical Yoga surprise for students of GIIS Whitefield on International Yoga Day

Music and Movement Yoga for Pre-Primary students

The Pre-Primary classes celebrated International Yoga Day in a special way. They were introduced to the concept of Yoga using different themes. This was a Music and Movement Yoga retreat for the tiny tots for a healthy mind and healthy body. In fact, different levels had different interesting themes.  The basic Yoga gestures across all the classes included the Balloon Breathing exercise (to calm), followed by the Namaste posture and ended with Savasana (to relax). Nursery students were given the theme ‘Back to the Farm’, where they danced using Yoga postures to imitate animals and also made various sounds as those of the animals. KG 1 were given ‘Apple Tree’ theme where they did child pose, tapping and welcoming the Sun gestures as part of Yoga postures and to show how a seed grows into an apple tree. The KG 2 children performed ‘The Sun Dance’ in a fun way through Yogasanas like road runner pose, dog pose, cobra pose and welcoming the Sun.

Yoga Mantra and Pranayama for Primary and Senior students

The International Yoga Day was celebrated in Global Indian International School (GIIS) Whitefield on 21st June, 2017 with the special ode to the basics of Yoga. The postures or asanas in Yoga are meant to soothe the body and mind and offering gratitude to the supreme power of the Universe. The day began with the ‘Lighting of the Lamp’ by the Chief Guest Mr. Nagashetty, a trained Yoga Resource Person with a M.Sc. (Yoga) degree YIC. He is a member of the CSR Centre, Bengaluru. He shared the importance of Yoga Day with the students and taught a few yoga postures as well. Further the sessions for the Primary and the Senior students was taken by the Yoga trainers and teachers of GIIS Whitefield.

Among the important Yogasanas, Pranayama, Sitting and standing postures along with the Yoga Mantra Meditation was performed by all students. All the sections from Grade 1 to Grade 9 showed immense enthusiasm while the sessions were taken for them.
