Standing Ovation to the Aspiring Students at GIISMUN, Chinchwad Pune

GIISMUN (GIIS Model United Nations) Conference was held in of July, 2016 in GIIS Chinchwad, Pune. It was attended by more than 170 students comprising of representatives from GIIS campuses in Noida, Ahmedabad, Surat and Bangalore along with other schools from Pune Stars.

GIISMUN is regarded as knowledge oriented Model United Nations conference. This is a wonderful platform that provides students with an excellent opportunity to hone skills of diplomacy such as lobbying, negotiation and collaborative problem solving. This enhances their public speaking and communication skills as they explore and share the knowledge in various topics with among other delegates.

GIISMUNGIISMUN had 5 committees namely, United Nations Security Council (UNSC), United Nations General Assembly First Committee (DISEC), United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP), The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and The South Asian Association for Region Co-operation (SAARC).  Students were assigned different committees and also they were given specific countries to focus on.

GIIS Bangalore had 3 participants for GIISMUN who dedicated quality time at school and home to prepare for the competition. Vashu Tyagi, Pradyumana Shyama Prasad and Sanjit Suresh showed a lot of dedication and their teachers Banani Das Deka and Amanpreet Garg guided them in the best way.

As an ice breaker, all the students were taken for site seeing and this helped in interacting and making new friends from other campuses.  The students visited Pune University, Chatushringi temple, Deccan Gymkhana, Chitlebandhu sweet shop, Shaniwarwada and other places in Pune. This definitely helped them relax before the conference.

Sanjit has won a Special Mention Award for Country: China, Committee: United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP). He said that the competition was like a game of cricket where one has to deliver ball to ball, he presented his views point to point with focus and confidence. Pradyumna was excited as he said that he could easily prepare flowcharts for any topic hereafter like a breeze. Vashu mentioned that this is one of the best learning platforms at GIIS.

The students showed exemplary performance and imbibed a lot of skills from the conference. More than the winning zeal, it was the abundance of learning opportunities that brought a smile on the faces of these aspiring future leaders.
