Organic Farming at GIIS Bangalore on World Food Day

With the Sun shining bright and hot, GIIS Bangalore Campus celebrated the 'World Food Day’ under the aegis of Mahatma Gandhi Centre for Universal Values. On this occasion, the students of the Primary and Middle School contributed towards the mission of organic farming. They sowed seeds of various pulses and vegetables. They were helped by their respective teachers and the gardener. GIISians love nature and on World Food Day, the focus on chemical free, organic farming is the best way to tell the world - Eat Organic Food and Stay Healthy in Life!

"There are people in the world so hungry, that God cannot appear to them except in the form of bread."

Mahatma Gandhi

The significance of 'World Food Day' was explained in detail in a Special Assembly by Primary students. They showcased the benefits of eating nutritious food with the help of a ‘Food Pyramid’. They danced   on the theme of benefits of staying healthy with a good diet. Further, video presentations focussed on the ways by which various countries were contributing towards agriculture, organic farming, afforestation, green house plantations and conservation of trees.

World Food Day' promotes awareness about the concept of organic farming for a healthy life along with the concept of feeding the needy by sharing the excess food that is otherwise thrown in the trash. Every GIISian spreads this message to the society as they themselves take a pledge not to waste food whether at school, home or anywhere. The entire programme had a humbling effect on the students as they understood the value of food and the importance of preserving and conserving our resources. Value education is a continuous process at Global Indian International School.
