India is a repository of a rich and vast heritage. It reflects in literature, history, architecture and language which has developed over thousands of years. The quiz was indeed fascinating and it was conducted under the aegis of INTACH and covered the cultural heritage of India.
Students from classes VI and VII of GIIS India campuses namely Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chinchwad, Indore, Noida and Surat participated in the competition through video-conference. Each team was represented by 4 students, who were selected for the quiz after qualifying in a written test. GIIS Bangalore hosted the quiz and the quizmasters were students from classes VI and VII. Mr. Rajeev Katyal, Country Director GIIS India was also present to encourage the budding quizzers. Ms. Amanpreet, Ms. Aparna, Ms. Rupa and Ms. Archa, teachers from GIIS Bangalore, helped in putting together a fantastic quiz competition. Ms. Sunita Jaisingh, Ms. Vaishali Borde and Ms. Aditi Chakraborty gave a lot of valuable inputs about quizzing.
The quiz competition had 4 sections. Each campus was asked 2 questions and 10 marks were allotted for the correct answer and 5 marks to campuses that took the pass-on question. Surat won the first round with 25 points. This was followed by the visual round where pictures of great monuments, famous infrastructure, musical instruments and ancient cave paintings were displayed on the TV screen. Cues were provided in the form of options and the students had to identify the edifices. Bangalore Team had researched intensively to shortlist some of the magnificent structures of India and students learnt a lot from this round. Team Surat won the second round by 45 points, with Team Chinchwad following very closely at 40 points. Third round was an audio round and the students had to identify classical singers, musical instruments like the table, sitar and flute from the recitals by famous exponents of music based on 30-second clips.
