The Inter-GIIS Cricket Championship held at GIIS Whitefield, Bangalore campus was a stupendous success, and GIIS Hyderabad walked away with the Championship Trophy. The Chief Guest for this event was none other than Mr. Chandu Borde, the legendary cricketer and Ex-Chairman of the Selection Committee BCCI, who is also the President of Global Schools Foundation. His support and presence, urged the young cricket champs to deliver their very best.
The seven participating teams comprised of GIIS students from Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Surat, Indore, Noida, Pune and Hyderabad campuses. On the day before the match, teams were welcomed by their fellow GIIS mates of Bangalore campus. The rules and regulations were announced along with the prizes that were up for grabs. The various teams drew lots and their team numbers were decided. The day of the match arrived quickly and the players gathered on the field; resplendent in their cricket-whites.
The first match commenced with GIIS Surat against GIIS Indore. Team GIIS Surat emerged as winner in the first round. The next match was between GIIS Ahmedabad and GIIS Hyderabad. Team GIIS Hyderabad leapt to the finals by winning 10 wickets over GIIS Ahmedabad. A similar victory was witnessed by Team GIIS Chinchwad against Team GIIS Noida. They too won by a whopping 10 wickets. Team Bangalore faced an extremely strong and intimidating opponent in Team GIIS Surat. Cricketers from the Surat campus won the round by 9 wickets. The nail-biting game left the spectators wondering as to whether the cricketers from Chinchwad or Surat would advance to the finals as both teams were very close in run rates. The coaches, under the expert guidance of Mr. Chandu Borde, decided on a “Super Over” between Chinchwad and Surat to decide the second finalist. This match was charged with energy and emotion as the crowd cheered and clapped for their favourite team. It was finally GIIS Chinchwad that advanced to the finals.
The final between GIIS Hyderabad and GIIS Chinchwad was evenly placed and both the teams had equal chances of winning. However, it was Team GIIS Hyderabad that stood tall as the winner of the Inter-GIIS Cricket Championship, by exhibiting excellent batting and bowling skills. The prize distribution ceremony was presided over by our Chief Guest Mr. Chandu Borde , Guests of Honor Mr. Rajeev Katyal-Country Director GIIS India, Ms. Vaishali Borde- National Academic Head- Co-scholastics, Mr. Narasimha Murthy-Director Arca Education Society, Mr. Ram Prakash- Infrastructure Partner and Commander Bharat Unercat- Director Infrastructure GIIS, Mr. Ganesh Sharma- Principal GIIS Bengaluru and Ms. Preetha D’Mello-Pre-Primary Coordinator.
